More OD trouble
More OD trouble
I've read several threads here where some found a way to help the auto tranny on 92 trucks t engage the OD.
I read on the sticky someone used a pressure switch to the ground the OD solenoid wire, but I can't figure where exactly is the OD solenoid, how many wires is has or which one to tap into. Also I read some use a switch to power said solenoid as well.
I have also removed a 2 wire sensor that was on one of the lines coming of transmission on the driver side in favor of a temp sensor for a glowshift gauge setup, do I have to tap the two wires for that sensor (the one I removed) together?
Am I still missing something?
Thanks.

What happen, am I asking the wrong questions? It was answered some place else already? No one here drives a 92 w250 auto
I always drive manual transmissions, I knew an auto would be trouble.

The 2 wire sensor that you removed tells the truck when the fluid is warm enough to shift into O/D. Without it it, I don't know what happens. Maybe no O/D? Further back on the driver's side of the trans there is another 2 wire connector. That's the one that controls the O/D solenoid. To determine which is hot, take a test light and ground one side and stick the test light into the connector with the key on. Which ever wire makes the light light is the hot wire. The OTHER one is the ground and that's the one that you are concerned with. When I had a 47RH, I took the ground wire into the cab, put a toggle switch on it, ran it back out, and grounded it on the engine. The O/D solenoid is inside the transmission. You have to drop the pan to get to it. It lives beside the valvebody on the passenger side. To test it, take it out, put 12v to it, and it'll make a pop it it's good.
Hope this helps

It's not all pertinent to the
Cummins but it's got a lot of excellent info.... and parts if you want 'em.

whats your od doing now?? jumper the two wires your disconnected with a paper clip take it for a spin, its a temp sender and I believe its for if the trans gets to hot it will disengage the od, so jumper the wires and see, you won't hurt anything either it will work right or it will be the same, like cmann said the od solenoid is in the trans and its the two wire plug that is on the left side of the trans that plugs in from the top side by the linkage, its a ground controlled solenoid. I'll post more later, its time quiting time at work...
lol

Thank You, I'll jump the two wires at the temp sensor and ground the solenoid with the pressure switch. I didn't know what the wires were for and didn't want to ruin the solenoid messing with the wires not knowing what I'm doing.
The two wires at the temp sensor are disconnected since I installed the temp sensor for the glowshift gauge, I will jump them and see what happens.
Thanks for th link I'll get reading.
