miss on startup

So on the Fummins since I resealed the injector pump I get a miss on start-up. And only after it has sat more than 24 hrs. The miss also goes away after ~30-60sec of idling.

The engine fires right away and does miss a beat, but if I give it any throttle before it has idled for a ~30 sec it will miss.

I was thinking that somehow air was getting into the fuel system, or I have an injector that is bleeding off.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks, Aaron

I just finished resealing the top half of my pump (and trying to get the pin to stop leaking.... 4th time was a charm). Mine has done it 3 times now too! I have an electric fuel pump, which probably helps. I have no noted fuel leaks YET. Do you?

If I remember correctly I was at .89 mm but I lift the a new pump on and matched up the marks, but all pumps are different, ide check your timing.

I also have noted no leaks, when I re-installed the pump I advanced it further than when I took it off. Then after the startup mis thing I turned it back a little and no difference.

The only thing I can think is maybe the ball bearings that hold the pivot shaft in for the AFC pin might be leaking a little air? That is really the only thing I could think that would leak! but definitely NO fuel leaks.

When timing the pump are you using a dial indicator on the back of the pump? Thats what I had to do

I haven't got the dial indicator setup yet. I just do it by ear and haven't ever had a problem with doing it this way yet. On my other truck it doesn't matter where the timing is as far as starting. I can tell when its advanced pretty far as the spoolup is slow but it pulls hard on the top end. When its retarded some spool is faster but EGT's are higher.

I've never had timing cause a miss at startup before.

Sounds like a air leak. Mine was leaking at the fuel heater gasket and was doing the same thing.

have you checked the KSB and connections?
The purpose of the KSB is to advance the timing slightly on start-up.. a miss at start up,rough idle and/or excessive smoke that clears up as the engine warms or goes under a load can be a symptom of a KSB issue. Check the wiring at the KSB, as with the shut off solenoid, it is prone to corrosion and working loose..

Thanks for the suggestions, I will just go ahead and change the Oring.

As for the KSB, the wire is connected, but I haven not idea if it is getting power. Since the conversion I was only interested in getting the thing started and didn't worry about powering the KSB. I think it should be getting power, if it is cold enough, but I need to check.

thanks!
