White smoke on startup

I have a 02 Dodge Ram QC auto and I am new to the CTD but not to the Dodge Ram pickups. I have owned 4 gassers and they all have served me very well each going over 150k. I love the power of the CTD and have been lurking here since I bough my truck in August to learn as much as possible. There seems to be a vast wealth of knowledge on this site.

I have noticed when I start my truck when its cold I have seen a small puff of black smoke when I start the truck. I have been told that is normal. I started my truck this morning and it smokes white for several minutes.

What could be the cause of this Smoke and why the change from black to white smoke? I have not noticed any change in the way the truck runs or loss of power.

Any reason to be worried?

Thanks from a noobie!!
You didn't have the block heater plugged in did you?
That will happen sometimes when its cold, excess unburned fuel can be black and sometimes white I see this at some truck stops when they first fire up.

No block heater used. That what makes this so strange. It was warmer today than it has been and I have never seen this before even when it was much colder.

Happens all the time, Sometimes you notice it a bit more than other times. Just the condensation that builds up inside your exhaust system as it cools will add to that as well.
Unless it keeps doing it long after it has time to reach operating temp I would not give it a second thought.

Thanks for the reply. Just wanted confirmation from someone with more experience with the CTD. I know this, after driving my CTD for the last 3 month I will never go back to a gasser!!! ;D ;D ;D
