Now I know this has been brought up before but I want to know exactly how this can be prevented. As fun as pulling a cable everytime I go to turn her on and off is, I'd rather have it powered or depowered via the key. That 3200 spring is mighty tempting and I plan to purchase one but I'd hope putting a 2nd gen shutoff solenoid on isn't the only way to bypass the problem. You all know the price of them suckers...

Nonetheless... What's a fella to do?

Mike

I'm having alot of trouble with my fuel shut down relay ( i just need to break down and order one) and I thought about putting a rack on it. It would be cool for the first 10 or so times eh?

I know that PDR has a supposed upgraded tip on their solenoid. I think I have heard good and bad worked for some people only worked for a month for other people. You don't necessarily need a pull solenoid from a 2nd gen. Since your going to have to make your own bracket anyways there are bobcat's with kubota engines that utilize a pull solenoid, so you can look at any of that small equipment as a source for a solenoid. The only thing is that it needs to pull to shut off as opposed to a 2nd gen that needs to pull to turn on and run then when power is turned off it just "lets go." So you would need some sort of relay timer setup to turn power on to the solenoid for 30 sec or so then turn off. Or a cheap/lazy mans setup of a momentary push button to energize the solenoid to turn the truck off.

But check PDR, also you can try what Wannadiesel did and chamfer the edges of the tip and stretch the spring, or find any pull solenoid and make brackets, etc.

Do a search cause Wannadiesel did this and it was in a thread not too far back.

Yep. Mine has held since August. All I did was chuck the plunger in a cordless drill and ran it against 400 grit sandpaper to reshape it. I sanded down the end until it was flat (instead of concave), and put a nice radius on the edge. Then I stretched the spring about 2 coils worth to make sure it would seal.

I came up with this by looking at my old one. It looked like the edge had been caught by the flow and torn, so I wanted to make the edge more hydrodynamic. Seems to have worked.
