MARINE CAM
Re:MARINE CAM
But, why? ???

I could be wrong, but I thought the marine cam had more duration, higher lift, and wider lobe separation angles- all of which should make it a great performance cam. In the marine environment, the engine would be subjected to a greater load almost all the time. I would think that such a cam would be optimized to reduce fuel consumption and EGTs as much as possible and still make 300-370hp. True, there is that "endless" coolant supply...

I sure would like to hear from some of the guys that have tried it.
Re:MARINE CAM
I HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THE CAM FROM DIESEL DYNAMICS BUT I HEARD NEW LIFTERS ARE NEEDED WHERE CAN I GET THE LIFTERS HOW MUCH ARE THEY AND HOW DO YOU INSTALL THE LIFTERS DOES THE PUSH ROD JUST COME OUT WITH THE LIFTER ON IT AND YOU JUST DROP THE NEW LIFTERS IN OR WHAT.
Re:MARINE CAM
The lifters in question are called Tappets.
Once you pull the rockers off, the push rods just lift out.
But, before you pull the cam out you have to install wooden
dowels to keep the Tappets from falling into the oil pan.
Next you have to get a special device that follows the cam journal and drop the tappets into it remove them, then
reinstall the new ones one at a time.

And remove the head and a whole bunch of other stuff.......
With all this work and the head off, you might as well have the
block and head o ringed.

--Justin

J.R. is right, cam install is best left for those that know what they are doing.

mark
