MARINE CAM
Re:MARINE CAM
1STGEN:

I have the "ARP" Hardened Head Studs in my 96' Dodge
CTD. I had them installed my Scheid Diesel when I blew
my head gasket last January.

As "Don M" already said, the head studs are hardened
"studs" NOT bolts which Cummins uses in the engines.
The advantge of the studs over the "stock" bolts is
they don't "stretch" when they are tightened. After
my head came off, Scheid Diesel checked the length of
my "stock" bolts and found that all (28) of them were
"out of spec" with regards to length! They had "stretched"
that much!! Another advantage I could see was that the
ARP Studs were "torqued" to 120ft. lbs. versus 90 ft.lbs.
(plus a quarter turn) on the stock Cummins head bolts.
You could "feel" the difference in the way the studs
tightened up versus how it felt when you tightened a
stock Cummins head bolt. At the time I did this, I was
running a B-1 Turbo pushing almost 60lbs. of boost
and I am sure that is one of the main reasons I "blew"
the headgasket.

Hope this has helped you out some.

-------
John_P
