Exclamation Manual trans Tech help????

I'm looking into buying a 1990 CTD as a parts truck. I have a 96 CTD that has an auto that im just waiting to die. I would like to convert my truck to a manual, but i wanted to know if the 5 spd from the 90 would bolt up ok?

Also, im looking at another truck, its a 2wd. What would it take to adapt a 2wd 5 spd to work with my 4x4 transfer case? Is it possible? New nose cone?

Thanks a lot!!!
Brian

The getrag from the 90 would not be as stout as the nv4500 for the 96. Not to mention, crossmember, driveshafts, and the small stuff will work right if you go with the 4500, tahts meant to be there. As for the 2wd to 4wd tranny swap, its quite pricey. But I just found out any auto to manual swap is pricey.

I beg to differ on the strength of the Getrag vs the NV4500, IF the Getrag was set up right at the time of assembly. I dont think one is any stronger than the other. I like the shifting and set up of the Getrag (ALL gears in the case).

I'd wait for the truck with the tranny I was looking for to come along. Get on ebay, autotrader, et al, and find one a little farther from home. There werent many 1stGens made, and even fewer available for sale.

Ive heard the argument about the strength of the two many times. Im really not sure of taht either. I still would suggest going with teh tranny for the 96 though to simplify things, plus IMO, the NV4500 shifts much better....thats IMO>

Well, i bought the truck. The motor runs like a top, and the tranny and t-case is already pulled. Im guessing this is the gear driven 205? and the Getreg. Now are the highway ratios any better in the nv4500? Also, i'd like to use my newer t-case off the truck for the swap, anyone know if it will fit ok?
