BigRagu, Does your 2nd Gen have a lock-up torque converter? The 1st Gen series is a non-lockup torque converter.

I'm new to these forums and to diesels and to modifying for better performance. While I'm out here reading I want to make certain I get things straight in my head.

Thanks for all the replies and banter. Everyone wins!

I've heard more about the Hughes on various BBs, so that would gain it some points. Really what that would probably come down to is when I called to talk to someone about it, and how knowledgable they are about thier product. I beleive it was DTT or TCI that I called, and the guy seemed clueless to me. I was very impressed with Hughes after speaking with Matt on the phone about thier product for out trucks.

Capitan- my truck is a 1st gen with a 2nd gen flex plate. I put that in when I changed out the rear main seal and at that point I chose to upgrade to a BD TC for my A518 non lock up automatic tranny. Carmyne

Yeah, price was the reason that I chose the Hughes as well. There was really no converter ou there that I could get for a lower price, and Hughes sounded like a solid product. I didn't check out or even know about the BD unit.

I got the flexplate today, and I am concerned after looking at it. It appears to be identical to the one I have. The metal might be slightly thicker, but there are no noticable differences. It was PN-3975464 Cummins. I thought that I got the right number, but maybe not.

By what I know the part number is Cummins Part #3946161. Atleast thats the one that I ordered, I still haven't pulled the stock one to check for a difference though...

That is the number that I used initially, but the shop that I ordered it through checked the number and used this one to order, because it was apparently the new number or something. I hope that it is a gen 2 flexplate, but it certainly doesn't look any different. Maybe it is slightly thicker, or made with a better steel. Thanks again for the help, everyone.
