low fuel light.
...ditto...though thru experience I have determined maybe closer to 5gal(not splitting hairs here), 'cuz usually you do go a bit before fueling after the light comes on. That almost always translates to 25gal fill for me, right after the light. My personal calculations leave approx 4gal reserve at initial light(to be safe). Then I try to stay on that safe side and figure the 30gal capacity probably allows for at least 1gal of water/contamination not to draw, so realistically I assume 28/29gal real useable capacity draw with 25gal refill at first light. Hopefully with that thought I won't be on the side of the road in the middle of the night, middle of a blinding rain or snow storm, kicking myself in the butt for thinking I had 6gal to go, know what I mean? :-) Most I ever put in 27.5gal waaay after the light, and needle ended up well below empty, driving south thru Louisiana on 2 lane late at night, all small towns, diesel is few & far between anyways, plus any I saw were closed early. Sweated it out the last 50mi or so w/low fuel lit until arriving at Interstate 20. That's when it took the 27.5 gal. Whew! Don't wanna do THAT again, so I now get fuel well above or anywhere's NEAR the big E. :-) All this seemingly needless carnage above written to advise anyone to keep that tank full as possible, and DON'T always think you have a certain quantity of reserve, though it is there if you really really need it, or like me, you really really screwed up your planned fuel stops or mileage calculations...I'm tellin ya, I nearly developed an ulcer that night! ;-)

Mine comes on, goes off, comes on when I have used about 22-23 gallons. Stays on right at 24 gallons used, and I normally have 75-100mi left with that. I have put 29 gallons in before.

Be careful when leaving it after driving with the light on awhile. When you shut down, the fuel is warm. When you comae back later it will be cooled and you may not have enuff to get to your fueling point of choice.
I put 3600 pounds of Quickcrete in the back of my truck two months ago and the low fuel light came on and has been burning brightly ever since. It comes on when I turn the key on and goes off when I turn the key off. It is now covered with electric tape.
NO the Quickcrete isn't still in the truck.

And here I was getting all
nervous when I get close to maybe having to switch over to my twenty-gallon reserve that I always have FULL, except the couple of times per year that I run it dry and refill with fresh fuel. Two twenty gallon tanks and a fifty-two gallon auxilliary will bring a gooseneck load of cattle a long ways across the country.

I wouldn't count on that light to keep me from running out of fuel.
