longbox to shortbox

SO im buying a 93 W250 that is currently a longbox frame with a clean clubcab and the guy im buying it from is keeping the utility box and im gunna cut the frame and short it up because i like the way a club cab shortbox looks more than a clubcab longbox just my opinion. but my question is about the driveshaft, is it going to be more price efficient to use the original driveshaft and take it to a shop and have it shortened and balanced or would i be better off buying a dirveshaft out of a 1st gen clubcab shortbox ??

It normaly runs $200-250 to get a stock shaft shortened and reballanced if they can reuse the yoke. Of course its been years since I've done that so it may be more.

it is your only option. Had one done a couple of months ago: $300 but they supplied a new yoke

Wow, I never paid that much when I had my work done on the driveshaft for my ramcharger and my buddies ramcharger. Guess stuff is more expensive in Houston though.

I was paying $200-$300 for a drive shaft shorten and balance. Then my brother put me onto a farming machine shop, they do the all the fab work for farmers and such, so they also do drive shafts. I had the 2 piece drive shaft in my crewcab, shorted and rebalanced for $150!!

So maybe look into a farming machine shop locally and see if they can do the work for a few bucks less...

I paid $75 to shorten my shaft for my Suburban. the guy asked what it came out of. I told him a 90 D250. His eyes got big and he said "This was going to be $150 because of all the weight Dodge like putting on to "balance" it."

There was only a single 2oz piece on the longer shaft.

Clean Short beds are almost impossible to fine around here
Workable beds are getting tough to find
Rotted out beds are even a bit tough.

Just a thought look around for beds before you cut.
