Locking Hubs

Going to take apart my locking hubs this weekend to fix my universals. How hard is this? I'm going to print the the FAQ off but I was just wondering if someone with medium mechanics skill could do this?

Easy as pie. Just a matter of taking a few things apart, cleaning and then repacking and you're done. I don't even use the special socket, but that would definitely be a help for the axle nut.

Not sure if they'll work as there isn't much room outside of the nut. The special socket has ******* that stick out that go into the slots in the axle nut. But, like I said, a hammer and a chisel/screwdriver work well too...they just bugger up the nut a bit.

I'll have to see what I'm dealing with, maybe I can fab something up with all the metal I have around. Do you have a link to the special socket?

In this article, I go through the dis-assembly and reassembly of the stock/OEM '93 D60 manual hubs . . . . https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=143024

It may help some.

best way to go, its tight in there, theres also thicker spindle lock washers id recommend, from dorman, the thinner ones can shear the lock tab when torquing the outer nut.
