Linkage/Pump help

I pretty much just got the flat bed out of the barn this spring and have been getting some work done and or doing it myself (shocks, exhaust, brakes etc.) Anyway, I finally bent a 10mm and adjusted the idle that was way high when I got the truck. First try was too low apparently because it wanted to die after a 30 mi cruise when I hit the exit ramp off the expressway. I turned it up a bit and adjusted the linkage to allow it to contact the idle screw. Idle is good now but it still has a tight/stiff second half peddle. A quick check after I tweaked up the idle I thought it was OK but it seems after it gets hot it sure gets hard to push. Any ideas? I guess I need to get someone in the cab to floor it while I watch the travel. I don't know where the pump is set but I assume it has been tweaked since it idled high and will run the EGT to 1200 with 30lb boost at WOT.

I would suspect the TV cable is binding. Also check the bellcrank on the throttle bracket, I've seen them get rusty and bind up.

I just noticed that it was missing the throttle valve return spring. No wonder, since it looks like it is supposed to just hook to the ball stud on the injector pump lever. Maybe that will change things if I can rob one off my 91? Also whats up with that wimpy return spring that goes to the injector pump lever? I wouldn't think it would be doing much.

That return spring and bracket were either a recall add on or a TSB add on. Mine doesn't have it. Somehow mine doesn't have the TV return spring either but It hasn't affected anything yet so I left it as is. Although the pedal feel was extremely heavy (hard). I took the idea from wannadiesel IIRC and move the throttle rod end at the pump linkage in to were the TV return spring was. Wow did that make a difference in the pedal feel. I had to Mod the AFC housing a bit to get the travel I desired but it rocks bigtime. It increased travel a bunch and added un unknown amount to top speed... Speedo only goes to 85mph and it can be burried and climbing now where before I was pedal to the metal barely able to get to 85.

You mean you moved the ball stud to the hole where the injector pump lever return spring went(the smaller spring)? The TV spring is the bigger one that was supposed to go from the injector pump lever ball stud to the TV cable. I just found that TSB and it has a good pic (I need them!) I haven't messed with this too much so my terminology/knowledge is kind of thin.

That is exactly what I did. I also ground the side of the AFC top down so the IP throttle linkage/throttle rod would clear for more travel. High idle stop MIA.
