Lift Pump Issues
Lift Pump Issues
Hey guys. My cousin and I just installed the 3200 gov spring in his 91.5 auto 4x4. Got it all back together and tried firing it and realized the 5mm hex screws for the cap had come a little loose so it was leaking fuel. Tightened three of them back up, one was still tight, and put it back together. Tried firing it again and no dice. Cracked #1 injector and it was getting a tiny tiny bit of fuel. Cracked #2 and it was less than #1. Went to the lift pump, the lever doesn't pump back up. Could these symptoms mean the lift pump went bad? Thanks for any input.

I bled the bleeder for the pump and it brought prime back to the lever but when my cousin tried cranking it it lost its prime. We'll try turning the engine over a little bit
Tried turning the engine over a tad and still nothing. When the lift pump lever is down and we try to crank it, the lever will come back up. But when we try to prime it again the lever stays down.
Sounds like a new pump is in order. I have gone through a couple in 465,000 miles
I was thinking the same. I just thought it was weird that it went out now after we had just changed the gov spring. He said he doesn't remember the lever ever having prime.. I wasn't sure if the truck would still be able to start or not without a proper lift pump? We just took the VE pump back apart to make sure we didn't do anything wrong and everything on that side of it seems fine. When I cracked the bolt for the lift pump I was able to get a little little bit of fuel out of it. But when I had my cousin try turning the engine over with it cracked it sent out plenty of fuel.

If you decide to do a lift pump, save yourself some effort and go with a low pressure piston lift pump.
Well, the fulcrum lever was broken. I don't remember seeing in the write up to pull the fuel screw out all the way, or even part of the way. But in the video it said to back it out until you see the o ring which my cousin and I did but oh well. We'll be putting in a new VE pump in a couple days. Thanks for the help though guys!
