LED headlamps for a first gen?

I was thinking that a quality set of LED headlights would 1) provide much better illumination and 2) lower the current draw that can damage the headlamp switch, wiring and fuse box. I am under the impression that LEDS require much less energy than a standard headlamp but I am not an electrician. Would this serve both purposes?

Yes LED lights will draw less power than the current lights. Depending on what your winter conditions are, there is one drawback to LED. The headlamp itself will not get as hot as the sealed halogen. I say drawback here, because if you are driving in a snow storm they will ice over a lot quicker.

unless you use tru projector housing, i would not use HID. they do not pattern correctly and blind oncoming drivers. the 2 most popular swaps are the truck lamps LED headlights and an H4 conversion housing.

I used hella E-code H4 conversion housings and sylvania silverstar bulbs and i think the light is incredibly. 10x better than stock sealed beams. here is a shot of the low beams

picture makes it look like it dives off on the passenger side but it carries into ditches really well.

I wouldn't use LED headlamps, as I live where it snows, and as said previously, they will ice up almost immediately.

I used the H4 by Hella and I'm very happy with them. Very bright. nice pattern. Doesn't blind everyone coming towards me unless I want them to.

Does anyone have some part numbers for the h4 conversion / hid bulbs? I was thinking about the LED route too but it can get pretty cold here as well. Really starting to have a hard time seeing at night even with relays installed.

Because of old bulbs or old eyes?

I don't know if you know the answer to this but do you still need to do headlight relays with LEDs ? Thought maybe the lower current draw might not need it to be relayed.

Truck-Lite's on mine. Like 'em a lot. Paired with some stupid-bright LEDs in the parking/turn signal housings, they really light up the road at night.

Here is how I did mine.

This first pic shows the new turn signal housing and the new light I installed.

This pic shows the turn signal housing cut but not sanded down to fit the new light. I used a dremel to cut the housing and a belt sander to level the cut to the mounting point of the housing. That is what the scribe line you see on the housing is for.

These next two pic show the new light fitted into the turn signal housing.

This pic shows the light epoxied into the turn signal housing and ready to install.

The turn signal LED light idea is pretty slick.
I might have to try one and see what it looks like at night before I commit to swapping some in.
