Post LED Headlamps

Wow..
The wait is finally over.

Could this be another project in the future?

I want to see a comparison to a Halogen and a HID

Jim

I was on the turnpike today and saw a big truck with led head lights it looked cool. They were easy on my eyes as he was comming up behind me. When he passed me they were lighting up the road very very well. My first thought was do they make them for my truck lol.

They are 250 dollars a piece on amazon.com that is a lot of money for a head light.

Yea that's high. IIRC, justramit91 (Nick) put some plastic conversion housings he got off ebay in his ramcharger that take like an H4 bulb? then he went to advance auto and bought the Silverstar Ultra replacement bulbs and put those in the new housings, he said they're awesome.

I have silverstar sealed beams, and am less than impressed. on high beam they don't go down the road very far. my old halogens were better, they were just yellowish. the silverstars are bright white but on high beam they go WIDE more than they go OUT down the road. which is what i wanted

I don't know why exactly, but I don't see well with led's in flashlights and such, compared to incandescent. I haven't seen the headlamps yet. Also, I am positive that I haven't spent 500 dollars on headlamps, total, in my life. Being as how I am building a house in Mexico, I have much more important things to spend my money on, but that is just me. I have found that when they are adjusted to factory settings, they work much better. Of course, lifts and such change that dynamic a lot...Mark

I just saw some LED DRL's on a big rig this morning too. At first glance I thought "That's cool. You don't see many rigs with HID's on them." Then got closer and could see them better, noticing they were LED's. They were awfully bright too!

As long as they don't have that blue glow I'm interested. Can't stand those bright blue lights people are starting to run. Plus they are illegal here in Texas.

196.88$ Mack/Volvo dealer cost. Still quite pricey but neet.

I do not think that $250.00 is that outrageous but I will wait till the price comes down first, this is the first I have seen using 2 LED's and a reflector to control the beam spread, all other attempts were an array of forward facing LED's.

For as long as I have been running my Silver Stars I have spent well over $300.00 replacing them and I get about 7 months of life from them so that is better than most.

These are the 7" round LED's they have developed and used by the military,
I looked at these yesterday at The Lighthouse and the light output is very impressive.

There is a Par-46 replacement for my spotlight that most of the police and Fire Departments are using now that cost about $140.00 with a 5 year warranty against burnout.

I am sure it won't be lone before the Chinese copy this light and turn them into junk like they did with the HID's.

They have been working on the I-10 freeway here at night and I came up on what I thought was big HID arc lamps illuminating the roadway and equipment from several miles away and when I got closer to them I saw the intense bluish-white light was coming from small little work lamps on the racks and under the beds of the work trucks. This is what I need.

Try the Sylvania Extra-vision sealed beams. That's what I run. They will light up signs over a half mile away. I had to get the load off my headlight switch though, it would kick the headlights out after about 5 miles.

Ha! I am right in there with you, Jim! I always carry a spare pair with me. You cannot always find them on the road!
And... why is it they always pop at the MOST inconvinent time??

I would spend the nickle in a heartbeat, however, I want to see them in use first.

The local 7-11 put LED parking lot lighting up a couple months ago. and I was very impressed.

If i didn't have HIDs already i would lighten my pocket to try them.

Hopefully someone takes the plunge so we all can add them to our christmas list if they are great.
