Leaking Injection Pump 1993 W350 Auto

1993 Injection Pump is leaking a ton of diesel from this rubber vent? Finger is on it in the pic.(Pic is of my 1990 pump) the same vent? thing is leaking on the 1993.

What is causing this and how hard is to repair? Prior owner said the pump had been rebuilt once before over 100k ago. Thanks

The O-ring is leaking around your fuel pin. The top of the pump must be removed to access this. This is fairly common and there are several threads discussing this.

Due to it being somewhat intimidating, it is quite common for those that are resealing a VE pump to NOT mess with accessing the fuel-pin O-ring if it has not been noticably leaking.

Thus, whoever resealed that pump 100,000-miles ago may very well have left the fuel-pin O-ring as-is and not replaced it.

JIM LANE has an excellent pictorial TECH artile on servicing it that is in our "stickies", although the pictures are a bit fuzzy.

Start looking now for a 4.5-MM Allen wrench; I have probably fifteen sets, plus another five hundred odds and ends, and I don't have a 4.5-MM in the bunch, so they must be somewhat rare.

Yup you will to pull the top off the IP. Not that hard of a job. As for the 4.5MM Allen...I only have a few Allen keys and I had about 4 or 5 in varying lengths and shapes.
