Leaf Sping install input?
Leaf Sping install input?
I am getting ready to install my 2 1/2" Skyjacker leaf springs. Today I got the front driver side leaf spring off. I was going to install the Skyjacker drivers side leaf, but was having trouble lining up the centering pin on the bottom of the leaf spring, with the bracket on the D60 axle.
I have the D60 on jacks, and have a jack on the drivers side frame rail, near the doors edge. I am trying to install the new Skyjackers one side at a time. The problem I am having is, the axle rotates forward about 1" -2" on the drivers side. This is why I am having trouble lining up the centering pin, on the bottom of the axle with the D60 top bracket.
I am thinking it would be easier to jack up the passenger side also, then put a jack on the passenger side frame rail, near the doors edge, like done earlier. Then, install both leaf springs. This should allow the axle to be positioned easier, then doing one side at a time. I guess I could also use a com-a-long to position the axle in place? Any suggestions from folks who have already changed their leaf springs, would be much appreciated!

I had the front the leafs out of mine last winter for a little tweaking. The way I did it was block the whole front end up under the frame rails below the cab just enough to take the weight off it. Unbolted everything, swapped a few leafs around and bolted it all right back up. Just be careful to not let it roll forward and pull the stub shaft out of the u-joint.
