late shift

hi guys: hope someone can help me with this one! 91 Ram 2500, 4x4 long box. I've noticed lately that my trans shifts from 1st to 2nd a little later than it used to, but it only happens the first time it shifts after sitting over night. it seems it has to rev higher to get it to shift into 2nd.After it shifts into 2nd the first time , it's fine the rest of the time. someone told me it's the tv cable adjustment, but I have no idea how to adjust it. When I got the truck, the tv cable ball was in the middle of the slot & there was no spring at all on the cable.Any help would be appreciated. It's only a winterbeater to save my 01 3500, but I'd like it to work better thanx

It could be the TV cable adjustment but if it only does it one time when its cold then i would just say the tranny needs to warm up to operating temperature. Mine also shifts somewhat later in all gears when its cold.

Did you put a spring on the TV cable? And does it clunk hard when you go into drive or reverse from park? If so you will need to adjust your cable.

There is a link in the sticky about adjusting the Throttle Valve cable.

Thanx For The Info Dean. I Did In Fact Put A Spring On , & Assuming The Cable Was Set The Same As A Gas Truck (my Manual Doesn't Cover Diesels) I Adjusted The Cable. Seems To Shift Better , & Now The Kickdown Works.however Would Still Like To Check Out The Link You Mentioned, But At The Risk Of Sounding Like A Moron, Whats A "sticky???"
