Last Payment 2 AMMCO

So I'm about to pay my last payment to AMMCO for my transmission rebuild and it went out again this morning. Picked up a coworker and left his house got around the corner and lost drive and reverse. So now I have no truck for work and am in a pretty off mood. Was happy that it was my last payment next week but now am wishing I had gone elsewhere for the repairs but I needed the 90 day payment plan. They have my truck now and are supposed to fix it now but until then I have no ride to top it all off. Just wanted to kinda vent I guess and figured this was my the place to do it.

Sorry to hear about your woes. The dead of winter makes it seem worse.

Man that sucks. So it's still under warranty I hope.

Had to do the tranny in my wife's car a couple years ago, 02 Chrysler Concorde. Paid $3000 and didn't get 2 miles and had to go back...torque converter exploded and filled the new tranny with shrapnel. Then they rebuilt it all again, got maybe 50 miles and had to go back, exhaust started leaking and shift pack went. Third time and all was well.

Talked to a guy a while back who owned his own tranny shop and he told me the industry standard for rebuilt trannies to last more then a year is only 40%!!! That's why you pay so darn much!!

Yeah it is under warranty but still a headache. My wife's car is a 95 eagle talon so it is of course broke down every other week so my truck is the family ride and now I'm boned till I get my truck running.

Average a year on a rebuild? Sounds like some places need to start actually rebuilding them, instead of replacing what's bad.

My boss has a 2nd gen that he took to BG&S. It ran a while and started acting up again. I wonder if they put a new cooler in or if it even has an auxiliary.

That sucks, but at least its covered under warranty. I haven't heard much good about Ammco. My friend had his twin turboed 24 valve truck get a " HIGH Performance Build" from them and he said he didn't like it one bit and took it to a real diesel trans shop and they redid it all, I guess they said that Ammco put all the good stuff in the tranny, but they just didn't put it in there right. So they redid it and he's been happy since.

All I can say is wherever my grandpa took my truck to get the trans rebuilt before I got it did a heck of a job, cuz its held up to a few years from his farm, and then the last few years with me from hot roddin around and puttin quite a bit of power and stress through it and its still going. And he said it he took it just to a small local trans shop, and he claimed they did a mickey mouse job on it, but its done great if you ask me.

Funny part is you can do a mickey mouse job on a 518 or 727 and run it forever....Had a 93 D250 here with a 518 in it that had like 260k all original on the drivetrain. That tranny shifted so nice you'd never know and the PO admitted it was original....

My close friend, his dad went to school for trannies and he builds them RIGHT and cheap, and has access to all the goo components. He just recently got his 6 bay 4 lift shop back up and running after it was foreclosed when things were slow last year.....Can't wait to get him some business.

Yeah the 727/518 are darn near bullit proof. I've never had a problem with my 727's over the years.

So when I dropped it off last Wednesday the "salesman" that the new manager is said it would be no problem to look at my trans and would have it pulled into their shop within the next few minutes. That was around 9-9:30 in the morning. Thursday called and they said they where shoveling all the snow out of the bed so they could finally pull it into the shop without getting water all over the shop. Friday said the wouldn't be able to get to it till Monday. So now it's Monday and I guess I just have to wait to see if they will finally work on it before I start freaking out. WHAT A JOKE!!! SCREW AMMCO DO NOT EVER GO THERE!!!!

Amen to that. First time mine went out (4 years ago) I was dumb enough to go there. They charged me over $300 for new lines, as the old one rubbed on the crossmember, leaked and took out the rest of the tranny. I went to pick up the truck, looked at the bill, looked under the truck, and found 2 pieces of heater hose replacing the broken sections. After calmly talking to the manager, who denied they did that ( ) I threatened him with his life, then they gave me new lines for free. So feel free to get angry with them, they are a big company that doesn't want to take any heat. I ended up getting another $500 off the bill after that, because they could not show me any proof of actually installing ANY parts other than the torque converter. They suck.

I hope you didn't make that last payment yet.... I'd be refusing to pay it until its fixed. I hate hearing stories about people getting jerked around. It makes my blood boil.

Oh believe me I've yet to pay it. They just called and told me it is internal and they have to drop the trans tomorrow. Took them till now to figure out that it was internal even though I told them you could smell something burning and lost all the gears. Their regular Einsteins there. It's kinda hard to move a scaffold trailer or mixer without a truck to so it's been fun with work. Had to hurry and fix a buddy at works chevy to get it back on the road to do the towing.

Well last night AAMCO told me they got my trans all pulled apart FINALLY and the cooling lines were leaking inside the trans. Which I thought was funny since they fixed the cooler lines once already since the build. So the guy said the inside of my trans is trashed and they need to pretty much do a full rebuild again. O and I got the trans built on the 90 day same as cash payment plan they offer and since I am not paying the last payment unless my truck gets fixed properly. The guy says their warranty doesn't activate till you finish paying the trans off. Which is freaking retarded since that means if you do the payment plan because you can't afford the lump sum you have to pay for any repairs within the 90 days. So when you first pull out of the shop after your down payment and getting the work done it's not covered if it doesn't make it the the first stop light before breaking down? I'm pretty peaved and haven't had a chance to talk to them myself since I've been at work and so I have them call my wife. I'm gonna freak if they try not covering it and have words with them and their corporate office till it's fixed. Sorry for the long post just venting about the worst repair shop I've come across.

Complete B.S. Read the paperwork they gave you. I think a phone call to your local better business bureau office is long overdue. Perhaps a call to the local newspaper for some bad publicity.
