Worn out injection pump will do this. Sends small pieces of metal at the plunger tip and scores it. Eventually enough will get torn off and it won't shutoff the fuel flow. Cable member or pump rebuild.

Too much fuel will do it also. wannadiesel rounded off his tip and has lasted for quite a while. I think he posted it in the "look here first"
Good luck,
Michael
PS I'm using a lawn mower cable myself

Still working for me, although others have had their pump eat a modified plunger. I don't think stretching the spring is needed, leave that be.

same ussue happend to me, i searched this site and found wannadiesel's solution. i ground the top of the plunger about a month ago and no issues since. i belive the reason it rips the tip of the plunger is when you turn up the pump more fuel and pressure is flying past that plunger and when it comes down to shut off fuel supply the fuel rushes past it and tears the tip off.

I have 2 1992 trucks. I removed the plungers all together. I think they actually can cut horsepower if they dont retract all the way.
The first time I installed a new solenoid my truck gained power. I dont know why. I got tired of changing them out.
Its down to pull cables for me.
