Just Purchased '91

Hi everyone, I just purchased a '91 D250 2wd auto Cummins Reg. cab for $3200. It runs great and drives great. The truck has about 120,000 miles on it and is all stock. Has only a few little problems which is what I need help on.

The air condition does not work. The compressor turns but does not blow cold air. I think the refrig. has leaked out. What is required and what does it cost to convert it to the new kind of stuff?

The head liner is also falling down. Is there any good glues ya'll recommend to restick it?

I plan to get this stuff fixed then make it smoke.

Thanks for all the help.

'72 Chevy 1/2 ton with a Allis Chalmers?!!! now that's orgional! I like it.them old D-21's were stout too.
Nice truck.

I believe all that's required to change to R-134 is the connection where it goes in. You'll need the system sucked out, and, the new stuff with lube added. May be a good time for the dye to see it there is a leak.

With the headliner your probably better off getting new fabric for it. The foam backing on the original stuff is probably shot and thats why they fall down. Re-gluing has never worked too long for me but I have done a couple with new fabric and they are still looking good.

A/C - you can get the retrofit 134 kit at Wallymart - I had the same problem. Used the retro-kit and all is well. Been working great for the last 2-3 months.

Headliner - Just get it replaced by a pro - I haven't ever found an effective way to "fix" one. The foam layer between deteriorates and NOTHING will make it re-stick. I used about 100 thumbtacks to keep it out of my hair until I could get it replaced.

BTW - congratulations

On the A/C if the compressor is cycling it has some refridgerant in it still most likely. Might just need a top off due to small slow leak. If you do put the 134 in it should be vac'ed down good first.

YOu can fix the headliner yourslef for cheap

I have done mine and others with no problems at all..

step 1: take off plastic molding that helps hold headliner up
step 2: take down headliner.
step 3: pull off old healiner fabric
step 4: sand down cardboard that headliner fabric sticks to
step 5: go to Joann Fabric, or any fabric store and buy headliner material.. they all carry it
step 6: also buy headliner glue.. (make sure it says headliner glue) usually made by 3M
step 7: blow off area you sanded so it is clean.
step 8: start on one side ( helps to have second pair of hands) and spray glue on headliner board and also on fabric let sit for about 30 secs and then start to press it together.. best is to only do 4 inches at a time
step 9: finish off all the glueing
step 10: use a small rolling pin or whatever you have and roll it back and forth to make sure it sticks well
step 11: let it sit overnight to make sure glue dries
step 12: next day put headliner back in and reattach the plastic molding
step 13: smile you are done

Here is a pic after I redid mine with Black headliner
