junkyard twins, lord forgive me for what I am about to do

I scored an HT3B today. It didn't have a holset I'd tag anymore so I think people were having trouble with the identification. It came off of an NTA 855 and went home with me for cheap as the compressor wheel has some impact damage. So where does a guy score a wheel for cheap. Also, I am running a hybrid (see sig) and have pretty decent air already, I think it will be a good top turbo. But what is the deal with the exhaust housing on the HT3B? I hear there are several sizes just like the other turbos. My housing is marked 3519351 HOLSET 32-41050. I am guessing it's a 32cm? So what do I need and what are the numbers. Oh and by the way I am pulling the POD's and going to custom EDMs in the spring, so throw that into the equation. Figure I'll get a thick head gasket and some head studs while I'm at it. The slope is getting icy guys I almost can't control myself at the thought of the sound this thing is going to make at 60 psi or so !

Sounds like you're on your way The best bet is to call a turbo place like HTT and let them decode your #'s so you're sure of what you've got. From what I hear, the divided exhaust housing (23cm, maybe?) on the HT3B's is the one you want for street twins. Keep us updated

I would consider o-ringing that head. I have 2 of those turbos laying around but dont think they are any good.
I agree on the "Call Hytech turbo" they should help you out. http://www.htturbo.com/

Frostie, those HT3B's you have are there any casting #'s on the housings? I think I might know how to decode them.

Are there no first gens out there with twins? Come on guys. Someone else must have HT3B's laying around or running for bottom turbos. The second gen guys are saying to run a 26 on the 12v to keep egts in check. I have done business with HTT and like the service. However, I want to get answers on my own, I am a master tech and retired parts man so it just makes me sick that the information isn't out there for us to buy these parts from any holset dealer. I don't like calling up these companies all the time and be led to the room of no part #s to pay (god only knows how much) markup. As for holset there just holding us all back by not releasing information on old technology.

This project is going to be super budget, to do that its gonna take a little help from those of you out there.

There are a few with twins. Most people drive 1st gens because they are less expensive to drive and maintain and would like to keep it that away.

IMHO

Jump on PDR's web site. They have many photos of their twin set-ups on their site. Also they have a number of combinations they use to create their twin pakages listed. They do not however list the sizes of their comp/turbine sections but may give that info out if you were to call.

Also swank (user on here and other forums) has a nice twin set up. He has many photos of it on his web site found here:

He has some great photos. Shoot him a PM. Maybe he can offer a hand.

I did think the first gen was cheaper to own, the I had to fix what 200,000+ mile wore out or broke. However, I bought mine because of the old square look and the intercooled 12v 5 speed setup. I have a 73 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 and the dodge is just slightly more modern looking but built about the same. I like straight axle, leaf spring kidney bruisers.

I hope you didn't give much more than $50 for it. Brand new ones can be had for around $500 I've read. That big housing is a door stop. Find a 26cm for big HP or a smaller one such as 22 or 23cm for quicker spool up and low hp injectors etc. Turbo info is not out in the open for all of us to know. It's kept close and secret to the turbo vendors, that's their way of living.

Yes, bill I bought it for $85. Your always the critic, but it is appreciated. I say that about as cheap as purchased turbos get. Got an e-mail from paul at HTT, he said the 36 is the doorstop. They will give me credit toward the wheel in exchange for the 32 if it is crack free! I also got a rep at holset to be kind enough to give some #'s for housings and with the help of some of the second gen guys complied the #'s for three housings. Which I am willing to share for the benefit of everyone else if interested. I'll start a seperate thread if there is interest.
