jump start problem

i had something in my truck that kept drawing power. so i had to jump start it a few times. i fixed the power draw problem, but i had an issue this morning. I put the positive cable on the red line(on the other truck)which was acctually negative terminal. did i screw anything up? it sparked alot and smoked a little.

Probably did no damage, the only thing I would be concerned with is the PCM they are kind of fussy aout voltage spikes etc but if you start and run you should be ok.

I would be more worried about the truck you were using to jump if it was running. Some alternators do not like dead shorts. I don't like soiled shorts but that is a different story.

If it still starts and runs and everything still works, probably no harm done.

Reminds me of a 55-Chevy truck that we bought; the previous owner had obviously stuck in an old battery just to have one in the truck when we picked it up.

Some knot-head hooked the cables up backwards and nobody caught it.

The battery must have been completely dead and then gotten charged backwards; I would not have believed it possible had I not seen it for myself.

We drove it all over the place for several years before that backwards-charged battery finally gave it up.

And NO, the truck was not positive ground.
