Jump start blowing out the PCM?

A friend of mine has a 2004.5 3500 with 200K+ on it. Lately he has been experiencing the engine just cuts off for no reason, but will immediately restart. This has happened 10 times just trying to back into a driveway, and happens randomly riding down the road, or stopped. He had some codes, such as a P0514 and finally took it to Dodge for diagnosis. They have replaced the cam sensor so far, but it continues to have the problem. He took it back to Dodge and they are now telling him:
1. the PCM is the likely problem, as they have just about eliminated wiring as the problem.
2. the ECM and PCM are the same box on this year truck.
3. Jump starting other vehicles, even without the engine running, will cook the PCM on these trucks, due to the voltage surge. He should not jump start his truck, if the batteries ever go dead.

Can anyone confirm any of number 2 or 3? Number 3 sounds really out there to me, as I thought that this type of electronics were built to handle at least jump starts.
If number 3 is true, what is the jump start procedure for these trucks? Can you not jump start anyone else with your truck, ever?

Thanks,
Chris

Sounds like his problem could be the shorted wire in the stickied post if you haven't looked there already https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=81936
