Interesting pyrometer question

So fall is officially here as my grid heaters kicked on for the first time this morning. When I turned the truck on the initial cycle of the grid heaters kicked my pyro to 1500 degrees and then it came back down to its normal 300-350 degree idle temp. Drove the truck and everything was normal so what in the world may have caused that???

A bad connection would be my first thought. I'd clean all the connections and re-tighten them.

Check your main body ground.

Any power spike or draw will cause the pryo to do wierd stuff. I had to ground mine directly to the battery to get rid of flutter.

The pyro is reading a very fine voltage. If there is poor grounds or too small, when a big load goes to teh same grounded part, the voltages will change since ground is usually reference for 0.

Okay so I will check that. I have grounded the regulator to the block with big heavy cable I still have to do engine to frame and I also have to replace my negative battery cable. Thanks guys I'll let you know what happens it will be a few days before I have the chance to work on mine again.

More than likely it's a ground. I grounded my pyro under the dash with my other grounds for my other gauges but the pyro was the only one to act up. Ran the ground for the pyro right to the negative post on the battery and works perfect. Amazing what a bad ground can do.
