Intercooler swaps
Intercooler swaps
8)Hello, my name is Spencnaz and I'm a diesel addict.....
I just bought a '89 w250 4x4, 3spd Auto with 2spd transfer case.
I have one question about this truck.
Is it possible to set this thing up with a later model intercooler? I'd hate to turn up the rail pressure on this thing without one on there. I know I should install a pyrometer, boost and tranny temp guage but I want to know if the intercooler thing is doable with the current turbo.
Thanks for any input.

Re:Intercooler swaps
The late model is a bigger intercooler, but guys have made it fit. The '91.5 - '93 intercoolers are hard to find. I think the easiest thing to do is get the Bank$ kit (just the intercooler kit, not the whole Super Extreme Stinger Extra Plus setup). When I was truck hunting I priced it out at a little under $900. Gave me an idea of how much less I should be willing to pay for a non-intercooled truck.
Re:Intercooler swaps
You can get an intercooler for alot less than Banks..... don' t get me wrong...they make great stuff and it's good quality.... it's just a fairly substantial "premium" with the name on it...
PM me and I'll try to hook you up with more info.
