auto tranny swaps

Ive been told by several HD truck shops that you can readilly find an Allison 5 speed trans from a bus or other rig to bolt up to the CTD. Obviously some fabrication would be needed, driveline, linkage, bla bla bla. anyone done this yet???

Apache;<br> I looked into the same senario, the problem is cooling. The Alison needs a larger cooler than our stock cooler. :'(<br> What I learned was that there really isn't enough room w/ a innercooler, &amp; A/C condencer.<br> I also have a 93, after speaking w/ several folks at different<br>bussiness, Tranny shops, ect. &amp; the good folks here on DTR. ;D<br>I choose to convert to a lock-up TC, and trans. one of the benifits of this trans set up is much lower opperating temps. ;D<br> I'm working on a story w/ photos &quot;to air on this site w/ OK from Mr. Thorpe&quot; that will describe in detail how to make the conversion. The tranny I installed is a 94-95 model 47RH. ATS built extreem duty w/ tripple lock TC, is the best upgrade I could have done, the power gets to the ground. ;D ;D<br><br> ramguy <br>

Re:auto tranny swaps

Apache;<br> Let me say this 1st I was looking at the 03's and the price wasn't the worst part :'( but $650/year for a tag vs the $130 for 93 helped in my decision and the fact that my ctd also is just broke in at 174k mi. ;D<br> Any how the conversion ran about $5,800., but I think it was worth end result. With a little small amount of BOMBING<br>this puppy's gonna pull anything I need and run efficiantly while doing so. ;D

Re:auto tranny swaps

Just for FYI I have an adapter plate the is required to go from a non-lock up trans(a-518) to a lock up trans. If anyone is interested I would make them a good deal. Thanx

Re:auto tranny swaps

Because the lock-up convertor is wider it sticks out of the trans therefore the adapter plate is deeper to accomodate the wider convertor.
