inside the pump

i am getting very broke and i still want to do more to my truck. i am getting ready to get a htt stage 3 turbo. my question is it really worth tearing into the top of the fuel pump to grind the afc lever and what ever else i can do in side there. i am just nervous about getting in there and screwing it up, i seem to be good at that. and i am not sure about adding the 3200 spring b/c of the stock auto transmission. i just know the spring and afc lever would be cheap but i dont want to screw it up and have to spend a lot of money

man tell ya the truth, if your not gonna add the spring i wouldnt worry bout it. i would grind your fuel pin tho. and if your pump is turn up half as much as mine, youll be pushin enough fuel for the trubo. Im wishing now id got the stage 4

It is definitely worth the effort to do the internal pump mods that are regularly discussed here. The question is, do you feel comfortable performing them? Nobody here can answer that question for you--that answer comes from the inside As for the spring, it'll be a breath of fresh air for your torque converter since the engine will now make power where the T/C begins to hold a bit, at least that's what the slushbox guys say More fuel mods like afc grinding and fuel pin grinding are what you need to worry about as far as tranny life. RPM's can't hurt the tranny....fuel can. And a turbo big enough to burn the fuel can speed the process along as well Go for the stage IV and the spring. Once you've been into the pump once, it's no big deal to tear it down again if you really need to fog out 4 lane highways later on You have gauges, right?

theres grinding the AFC lever which is underneath the pump top which some people do while installing the gov. spring.

Then theres grinding the fuel pin, this is the pin in the top of the pump that travels up and down while referencing boost, this raises fueling levels as boost increases. I haven't done this but it can't be too dificult. I hear it is easiest with a dremel type tool.

I read through this once quickly and got coRnfused I'll read through it a few more times and then decide if I want to attack this by myself, but someday it will be done At one point he has a caption under a pic that says this is the foot everybody is talking about grinding off and I still wasn't sure what I was looking at. Looked to me like there were two different levers with "feet". Who knows which one he's talking about????

Man, with POD's you are pushing your luck on the stock automatic to grind the AFC lever. If it's not a tow rig I think you'll get away with it for a while though.

Definitely do the 3200 RPM spring, it keeps the truck fueling hard all the way to the shift points. Much quicker and it feels a lot stronger.

If you decide to grind the fuel pin after you've already ground the AFC lever, you don't want to copy the PDR pattern or try to make it look like an Old Smoky pin. Only make the deep part deeper, leave the big end alone. The ground lever gives plenty of fuel at low boost, you want to try to delay adding more fuel until you have the air to burn it.
