Injection Pump Questions

My 89' CTD has had a low idle for a while and lets out a light blue haze while idling and shifting (3 spd automatic). I have been told that the IP might be worn out and might need replacing in the near future. Today when I was under the hood peeking around, I found a metal tab or spacer maybe on one of the fuel supply lines to the inection pump. It was not under the fasteing point on the pump whereas the other 5 were.....is this important or this minor? Also, if going to a new pump, is a reman VE the best option or is there something better for the $$ out there?

You might be pleasantly surprised with just a little external tuning of your VE pump.

Does it start quick --- real quick ??

Many who know absolutely nothing about an injection-pump will often diagnose them as bad; be sure whoever is giving the diagnosis is qualified to do so.

Smooth89,
Let me know how this all turns out for you. My 92 has recently started to idle a little rough. Bring it off idle, even just a little, and it smooths right out. I originally thought it might be out of adjustment valves, but was told later that is more likely the IP. It does still start quick, same as usual.
Thanks,
Bill

You bring up a good point BearKiller, but yes, it does start quick....the same way it always has I guess. The reason I figured it was a worn pump was because of a thread posted earlier where another guy was having the same problem, low idle at stoplights w/ blue smoke etc.....There was a whole big write up with Wannadiesel being one of the people to comment on it. I am not too familiar with injection pumps and lift pumps so I have not been able to diagnose/tweak anything yet Dodgefreak.
