Inherited my dad's truck...
So my dad passed away in October and I got his 97 dodge 5.9l 5/2 with a gear works over underdrive installed. He bypassed the normal ignition shut down with a pull lever kill switch. So all I can sum up is this he was good on matinence of engine but I noticed the indicator light side of the gear works over underdrive unit is unplugged but the switch side is still plugged in . I realize it's got a dual rear end and technically has 10 gears with over drive . My dad had horses and mules , and we live in very northern Humboldt county, California. It is mountain country. He was always tricking out everything he owned. I know nothing else about this truck. It's like my semi truck ( but not) . Does the light side of the gear works box have to be plugged in? I don't want to mess it up but it drives perfectly but I live on the coast and at 65 mph I am running 2250 rpm is this normal or does this indicate that the gear works set up is not working? Please help and thank you in advance.

Sorry for your loss!
But sounds like a neat truck, but you have a 2nd Gen truck, not a 1st Gen...but we here know a thing or two and your question really isn't 2nd Gen specific. I know some of the over/under drives don't actually have a final gear ratio lower than 1.00, so with what I am assuming is 4.10 rear gears and a manual transmission (NV4500), and the over/under set-up you would indeed have a 10 speed, but the final ration might be 1.00 and not the 0.76/.078 that the NV4500 in 5th might give you?
Some pics of the set-up...transmission, over/under drive and rear diff might help us figure out what is going on.

you could also post a photo of your dad and his truck together (if you have one), in memoriam of him.
Once it's here, it will be here forever.
