hybrid questions?

I robbed the hx-35 hybrid, 60mm 8 blade compressor and 16cm exhaust housing off the w250 and put on the d250. Now the d250 has stock injectors, and just pump tweaks. I pressure tested the intake system and found the hump hoses to leak a little air and ballooned at 15psi, so I got some 4 ply silicon hose and cut to length and installed. I didn't do a pressure test after, but spool is faster so it seems like it helped.

But my question is, even at 15-20psi manifold pressure, its still leaving a pretty good brown haze of smoke, is this normal? Even when it was on the w250 above 20psi it would leave a pretty good haze, but that truck has b-190 injectors which really aren't very big. So I have this same turbo on 2 different trucks and it really doesn't seem to me like it keeps up at all. Am I expecting too much or is something wrong with the turbo? It seems to me that it should be pretty clean until it gets over driven to above 30psi.

Thanks, Aaron

i think it should run clean but your altitude might be whats killing it

my 60MM and what i think are 190's runs fairly clean at sea leval

Yeah its not like 5000ft of air is thinner than sea level or anything. haha

It seems like it was cleaner on the w250 but it also had better intake/exhaust also, so that is going to help it some.

So what kind of manifold pressure do you get with your setup?

i was running 35 but now with the ported exhaust mainifold i can run upwards of 42 psi.

So I was about there, at like 28, so that is probably about right for the altitude i'm at.

Still have to figure out why it won't clean up the smoke even at 15psi manifold pressure

How much timing are you running? When they are advanced a lot they tend to make soot regardless of boost.

I make 38# at 7,000ft with a 16cm on a stage IV. Maybe try adjusting the star wheel a little more conservitively. Wanna suggested this to me a few years ago, and my truck became more responsive and smoked less...

Well all I can say is that the w250 has 1 tooth advance on the gear and 2mm shaved off the piston, and pump is about 1/8" past the mark on the gear case. So at full boogie its probably advanced just a "little" haha

But on the D250, basically stock, finally got a good 1/8" past the factory mark last night and its the same starts putting out a haze at 15psi manifold...

And I pressured tested the system last night to 10psi and couldn't find any huge leaks, without removing the intercooler its kind of hard to test that good.

Hijack alert!
How difficult is it to get to the piston in the pump?

Pretty much total dis-assembly required, so other than that, its not bad! haha

Well I think I have my excessive smoke figured out. After our last camping trip last weekend, hauling the camper and pulling the atv/bike trailer, Also the whole trip anytime there was about 10psi boost it would just smoke and we only got about 11mpg.

Well the engine started to have a knock at idle, it was pretty much only at idle, and it was a little rough. So oil looked fine, and no blow by. So I swapped injectors with the stock ones from my other truck that I had just had reset prior to the new injectors. Got them in last night, fired it up and no more smoke at idle, still blows a little smoke, but never got in it much. So today on the way home once it gets warm i'll lay into it and see how it is.

So one injector when I pulled it out, I could see like holes in the crud that was on the tips, so i'm guessing that that injector didn't have a very good spray pattern and was causing the knock and smoke. Just hope I didn't do anything to the piston!!
