ATS Hybrid Turbo

My new ATS Hybrid Turbo (WH1C 14cm,58mm compressor) arrived Thursday morning and I couldn't wait to install it. I took a couple of hours from work to install it. Everything fit perfectly and installation was quite easy. After several miles to give it some break in time I tried it out and Wow! My egt's have decreased as much as 300 degrees under full acceleration and the power is amazing! I'm thinking about putting my HY-35 on a lawn mower because it will never be on my truck again. Just thought you would like to know about this turbo. Thanks Don and ATS!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re:ATS Hybrid Turbo

George,
With the HY-35 my boost would top out at 19 lbs and with my comp box on 5x5 my egts would go to almost 1350 degrees. With the ATS Hybrid turbo by boost goes to 28 lbs and my egts top out at 1050 degrees. There is no difference in my spool-up but it seems that the ATS spins down more slowly. When running 60 m.p.h. my egts are about 500 degrees and it runs much lower at every speed.
I considered the PDR HX-35 also.

Re:ATS Hybrid Turbo

Can someone define exactly what "hybrid" means in this sense? I have no experience with hybrid turbos, so I'm interested in finding out.

Re:ATS Hybrid Turbo

Take the best parts of 2 different turbos and combine them to make 1.

Re:ATS Hybrid Turbo

Gotcha. Thanks. I was confusing that with a variable vein turbo. I don't know the name for that either.

Re:ATS Hybrid Turbo

Stakeman,
I have about 1000 miles on my new turbo now and it seems to deliver the power more smoothly and seems a little stronger. On the highway this setup is difficult to stay under 80 mph when not hauling. Acceleration at 85 or 90 mph is as hard as from 50 or 60 mph. The best part is that my egt's stay at a very safe level! Would you consider putting the wastegate elbow that came with the comp box or is 28 lbs of boost enough on this setup?

If your EGT's are safe don't worry about it.

Re:ATS Hybrid Turbo

I have been eyeing up one of these hybrids that uses a HX35 housing with a HX40 wheel, what are the advantages of this over my stock HX35? I assume it will make more boost, right? After I do the clutch I am planning on timing, 4K GSK, and injectors. What kind of power increase can I expect if I run a hybrid?

Thanks.

John

Re:ATS Hybrid Turbo

There is also a Hybrid that uses a true HX40 compressor housing and also the HX40 pinwheel...
From what I have seen..it spools as fast as my PDR HX35/14

Rick
