hx35 turbo swap

Hey guys im a newb still...

I have a 93 d350 5 speed, rock stock other than a rotated fuel pin and star wheel turned in a bit.

The truck will mostly be used for pulling about 12k goosneck.Ive got a new inj pump for it.Im planning on taking it down to Diesel Performance and have them work over the pump and install it.

I have a 4" Diamond eye system for the truck, that I will install.I was planning on buying the 60 mm stage 2 ? set up for the stock turbo.A buddy of mine has a 2000 cummins 5 speed and just upgraded his turbo and he said I could have his old turbo for free he said it was an hx35 do y all think this would be a better set up for me?

Discuss please.

Well the HX35 is a good turbo, and for that price an excellent upgrade over your stock unit. The main difference in the two is the HX35 runs a smaller exhaust housing (12cm2) as opposed to the 18-21cm2? unit you probably have now.

If you don't want it I'll gladly drive down and pay you for it.

I didnt get into the perticulars on it but doesnt the hx35 have a 4" exhaust outlet? so my D.P. its for the stock turbos 3" outlet.

If so I wonder if Diamond eye would swap me out for the 2nd gen D.P.

hey-Hey!!!,
I have one ov those turbo's on my 1990. I pulled the 12cm exhaust housing and put on a 16cm. Seems to build boost a bit faster than the H1C. It needed a new crossover pipe. I'd put up the pix but I have not gone to the trouble ov re-sizing them so that the forum can take them.
cheers,
Douglas

I say put the hx35 on, the 60mm upgrades are pretty expensive if you ask me. You should like it more anyway with a quicker spooling housing. And if its off a newer 24 valve, it should have the 58mm 8 blade compressor... am i right?

ummm...no, I don't think so... Gen 2 12V came with 8-blade, 56 x 83mm compressor with 52 lb./min flow. Gen 2 24V came with 7-blade 54 x 77mm compressors good to 60 lb./min. It suprised me that the smaller wheel flowed so much more than the bigger one; the 8-blade has a wider map at higher pressure ratios.
cheers,
Douglas
