How well does the '92 respond

How well does the '92 respond to turnin up the pump? Jeeper has helped me with gettin the info on how to do it but it says in the site that some models don't respond well to the adjustment. Will the '92 take the adjustment well? Jeeper has a 93 and I don't know how close they are to the same setup. If I can get the 230 hp they say in the artical I will be very very happy.

Thanks for the help

Gary

thumbs,
I noticed from your post in another thread that you would not only like to turn up the pump but will also be using the truck for towing.
My suggestion is if you are going to turn up the pump then the first thing you should do is get a set of gauges (pyro & boost). Personally I would not turn up the pump too much the VE pump on our trucks is a weak link. By turning up the fuel more stress is place on the pump and therefore it's longevity is compromised. A replacement pump will probably cost you twice as much as a set of POD or PW injectors. With a change of injectors along with advancing the timing on the injection pump and increasing the rpm to around 2900 and going to a smaller hot end turbo (12,14 or 16) you will get a lot of bang for your buck without having to stress the VE.

I'll agree but say doing the 'stage one' mods like giving the full load screw a turn in until it hits the collar is going to be pretty safe. Your 92 probably has the 18cm^2 housing, so moving to the 16 like I did won't make as much difference as it did for me.

Thanks guy's. This is the place I always get to when thinkin about the mods. I get all set and ready almost to the point of gettin the tools out and think again. This is a great truck in fact I like it better than the new ones. I would hate to have to put thousands into it because of something I did. Decisions decisions. :

The turbo housing on a 92 should be a 21. That's what was on my brothers anyway. He put a 16 on and it made a big difference in turbo spool up.

Re:How well does the '92 respond

Last September I dynoed @ 222rwhp 518rwtq. This was with a 16cm housing, air mods, advanced timing, and the pump turned up. Starwheel about 15 clicks from the bottom. Fuel screw in 3 turns, and smoke screw about as far as you can take it. So, you can add quite a bit of hp with just this. Since then, POD's have gone in and some different pump parts.

92's would be split between the 21 or 18, the one 92 in our family has a 18

Where do you look to find what turbo housing you have?

The housing size will be cast on the back side of the exhaust housing. It is usually at the bottom where it is hard to see, so a mirror works well.

BTW: on my 92, it was a 21.

Only difference I know of is the turbo housing sizes. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I wish you well on your quest for power, Gary. It's in there, you just have to unleash the beast. ;D

Good numbers, Monty. 8)
