How much power ? Four questions

A) How much power can you get out of a ve pump? I am trying to decide if i should p-pump my truck or not . I already have a 215 pump and another complete 2nd gen motor so i should have all the parts i need to do it. Im looking to get in the 400 to 500 hp range. How much would it coast to build a ve pump to that kinda power VS. a p-pump?

B) Does anyone have step by step directions and or diogams on how to do the pump conversion?

C) I also am going to be rebuilding my getrag does any one have any tips or diograms for that?

D) Im trying to decide what clutch i need . Mine is already slippn ..
I want the best quality for my dollar , right now im leening toward south bend . What do ya'll think?

Thanks for any help you can provide

A- there are 1st gens with 500 HP, frostys is 420.

B- you will need the pump, lines, and injectors. not sure of anything else off hand. Replacements straight forward, pin the engine and pump then swap. hoping the p pump was pinned by whoever removed it. Im sure others will chime in who know more than me.

C-dont rebuild getrag unless you have too, go with a NV.

D-Southbend is the best in my opinion.

Look at my sig. I'm only about 6 RWHP away from 400 and that's with a 15%+ VE that I tweaked once the warranty was up. I am hoping to go over 400 in May when I dyno again. I have seen 441 on W/M. Now if you want to run/use 500 RWHP that might be a different story.

If you have the pieces to do a P-Pump swap it's much easier to get the power level you are looking for.

The Getrag is a tough trans. Several of the guys have the Getrag rebuild section from the FSM in pdf format, I'm sure somebody would email it to you if you asked for it.

For the power level you are after, the Con FE would be adequate.

(A) 639HP 1300TQ at a heavy cost I'm sure. I know they tend to not be too reliable at that HP level though (the VE I mean). Parts required, Front shaft Snap ring, BIG fuel supply and 14MM H&R these run around 500 and you'd still need big sticks to make those numbers. Not to mention the tuning.

(B) If the P-pump is in running order the swap would consist of timing case, lines, injectors, and of course the pump. The cam will need to be removed to get the timing case off, as the gear bolts are on the back of the gear.

(C) Not sure I can help there, sorry.

(D) South Bend and I am hearing alot about Valair Ceramic. Supposed to be good for 600HP but the torque isn't advertised. You might check into that. There is a guy by 6LCUMMINS that has a chevy crew 6BT and he sells them or somthing like that.

Caledonia! That's where I grew up.
If your going for 400 diesel only you can do it with some big injectors and good fuel pump.
If shooting for 450 or more, it would be way easier and reliable to use the p-pump.

Keep the getrag. It is much cheaper to rebuild than to convert. You could almost get 3-4 rebuilds for the Getrag for the cost of a NV4500 conversion.

As Greg (I think) said, "The getrag is a true 5spd tranny, not a 4spd with a OD bolted to it." I loved that line!

Stomp has +600hp going through his Getrag. Blew up the D70 a few time though.

If it were me, I'd keep the VE and the Getrag. The VE reliabilty issues stem from lack of fuel supply pressure and volume, both of which have been overcome. The Getrag is no worse than a NV4500, and in many ways better- it is stock, so no conversion; no cost-of-gold oil for the Getrag; handles the same power and torque if set up properly. There are only about 6 people in the country (myself included) I would trust for proper set up for the Getrag to last any amount of time. Preload is critical, and the life or death of the tranny. Not hard, just have to be meticulous. ALso need more than stock lube level.
