how much to mod... 12cm housing.
i've got a 12cm wg housing that i am prepping to put on the truck. i drilled the center divider and actually enlarged the main hole slightly as well (only drill bit i had that was close to the actual size of the hole.
) the part i am wondering about modding is where the WG open. it can only open a very small amount before it his the housing and the flow pattern there has to be crazy. has anyone drilled a large hole and run a secondary (maybe 1.5 inch) exhaust that the gated air would flow through? seems like it would be easy enough to do. if you wanted you could even block that off from the main flow so that it only flowed when the gate was open, what do you guys think? is it worth the work? it's make it smilar in flow, hopefully, to the bigmouth second gen thing. you could even have the pipe feed into the exhaust a little down the line.
second question. i have a wg actuator off a 9cm housing i was able to drill out where the threads are pressed. can i adjust where the gate opens with that? i guess what i am asking is at a certain psi does the gate "click" opened? or does the bar move consistanly as presure is added? ie, if i choke up the thread and apply air to make it longer and hook it up, will it take a higher psi before it will open?
thanks as always

It doesn't take a whole lot of flow to get the boost under control. You could grind a bit on the backing plate to allow the flapper to move farther, but beyond that I wouldn't bother.
The factory actuators move gradually. I would set it for a lower point and then use a manual boost controller for fine tuning. If you set them too tight there's not enough travel to open the wastegate all the way.
