How to know if your CMP is bad?

Is there a way to test to see if my camshaft position sensor is bad? I've got it pulled off and on my desk off my 92 truck but dont really want to shell out $80 if thats not the problem

I havent poked around the sensors on the motor much, but I wasn't aware of a cam position sensor....

Are you talking about the crank position sensor?

My crank sensor went bad once.... hard to diagnose, but you can put a DVM on it while the crank is turning and put the DVM in AC mode to look for a signal.

Crank sensor wont stop the truck from running though, just screws up the Tach and prevents the computer from turning on the alternator.
