Cut the collar off the power screw and turn it in 1 more turn. Turn the smoke screw in a little farther, mines almost all the way in. It will smoke then.

don't turn the power screw in anymore without gauges.

sorry, theres not much other ways to get smoke if you dont have at least an EGT gauge to monitor things.

Yep, Smoke makes heat and that ain't good. Get a pyrometer installed first, then turn the AFC pin so deepest part is looking to the front. Cut the collar off the fuel screw and turn it in some and advance the timing 1/8 inch more at the match mark. The tech section has a lot of really good information. Be careful and don't short cut safety.

Some of you folks may not like this comment but we all know excessive smoke is the result of incomplete combustion and wastes fuel. It also put a target on our trucks as polluters which could bring on the wrath of "get them off the highway" from those who currently have a large influence on EPA legislation. Out of sight - out of mind may be a better mindset.

Yeah if you live in the Peoples Republik of Commiefornia or the liberal-infested northern states. Those of us living in free America don't really have to worry about nonsense like that.

Now back to the OP's question...one thing that really made my truck smoke significantly was swapping the stock fuel pin for a DennyT Stage II pin. Now I can run as clean or as dirty as I want. Yuppies in their Mercedes usually find out just how much 'moke I can belch out.

pull the afc lever out and turn the power screw in till it hangs the rpms at high end and then back it out 1/2 turn, garrenteed to make it smoke.

Whether you like it or not, he's right. Having smoke because of the way you have your truck setup is one thing, but purposefully make it smoke to "have smoke" is stupid and does nothing but put a target on you. Enough said.

You guys are going to get yourselves in trouble even though you are right. I predict post deletion ahead and a mod or admin saying "Just answer the question"

I have yet to see ANY 1st gen with any power at all with no smoke. In our case smoke is part of having power. These trucks just don't run that clean. Its the way it is.

I have to really give mine the juice to get it to smoke. But the adjustments I have made to the pump are anti-smoke. I don't need the attention.

All it does is put a big target on diesel trucks.

I agree with trebor and 92'1stgen, even though I can blow smoke with the best of em I choose not to fog out every living thing in sight and cropdust every intersection I go through

I don't do smoke everywhere either, but it sure smokes if I get on it. All of the modded 1st gens smoke when horsing around. I have yet to see a truck with over 275 hp not have the ability to roal the smoke out. I have tuned mine to limit as much as possible but no way to get rid of all of it.
