Unfortunately I don't think that would be a good marriage. Is it just your rear that is bad? I would do some hard junk yard shopping for another axle. I think that some one had 3.07 parts for sale in the classifieds here a while ago. The 727 and 3.55's might get you to sixty odd mph, they'd be great if you never went fast pulling a mountain.

You would do all of 75 with a 3-speed and 3.54's. My buddy has this setup and it will hit just over 80 running 285's. Big tire but not huge. My truck with O/D and 4.10's does about 75.

Sparky, The reason I went to the getrag was my trans was shot, along w/the converter. I had close to $1500 in the swap, but that included having the G360 rebuilt, a brand new Sach's OE clutch, and selling the parts truck I bought just for the swap. What is wrong with your 70? I have not had a 70 apart, but I have messed with the Furd 10.25 and I think the tone ring is between the carrier and the ring gear so if you wanted to lose the tone ring you would need some kind of spacer ring to get the backlash correct. Have you tried Randy's Ring and Pinion? I don't know what all they offer, but they are nice folks and willing to help.

If you are running 31.5" stock tires with 3.54's your best mileage will be around 45+ MPH at 1800 RPM's. At 2000 RPM's your mileage will start to fall flat on it's face around 50 MPH. At the stock governed 2500 RPM's you will be in the neighborhood of 65 MPH (allowing for some slippage in the transmission). This combination would work great if you were towing a moderately heavy trailer on local roads but would not be the most ideal set up for traveling on todays interstate highways. The 3200 RPM governor spring would give you a bit over 80 MPH but fuel mileage at that RPM would suffer severely along with the possible engine life expectancy.

BHD the carrier bearings along with the inner and outters were so bad the ring ate pinion teeth and im not sure about the spiders. i should have known but the howl from the rear traveled to the front so i just assumed it was the trany, ive had bad luck with newer dodge tranys, thats what i get for assuming. I just dont know what to do for about a grand i can replace it but for a little more i can go with an 80 with discs BUT 3.54 gears the lowest i can get em. What dose everybody think.

Prices really must vary by where you are. The last 3.07 rear that I bought from a local auto wrecker with 50K miles was around $300 +tax. I have also found the highest prices are found on the internet. The exception is Craigslist.com

That was everything drum to drum. If I would not have phoned ahead it would have even included the parking brake cables but they torched them to get it out quicker. Shop around using the phone, free ad type newspapers, bargain trader type publications and resort to the internet as your last resort. All I know it that it works for me. Good luck.
