How to adjust the "TV cable"
How to adjust the "TV cable"
Okay, this new truck tried to run my two brothers over yesterday. So we decided to fix the sloppy shifter. I removed the tv lever and the shifter selector lever from the shifter selector rod extending from the transmission case. I cleaned it all up and have the truck shifting into all gears again. The problem is I have no idea where the TV lever was or how to adjust it.
Can someone explain to me how to adjust this correctly. And what it controls.
I need the truck in the morning. I really wasn't planning on having to repair this, this weekend.

could someone tell me if the information to adjust this would be in a manual like a chiltons or a haynes. I really hate to buy one and found out what I need is not in there
Can someone suggest a good shop manual. About what they cost
Thanks
BTW I think I figured out how to adjust it I'm going to start fiddling with it in the morning

I wish I could help ya, but I don't know for sure. Did you do a search on the topic? I have a manual for the second Gen trucks and it is covered in there but not the same set up. Hope you get it going, sorry I couldn't be more help.
I unhooked it from the transmission selector shaft to work on the shifter linkages. I don't know where to tighten it back down. I thought it was keyed when I took it off and paid no attention to where it was.
I'm not sure exactly what you are asking?
You unhooked the linkage from the trans? Correct?
What exactly do you mean by "TV cable"? Sorry if I don't follow, I am kinda slow.
When I pulled my stuff off the trans, there was only one way to put it back on. It was a hole with a flat on it so it would only go on that way, the shaft it fit on had a flat on it. Mine was loose, that's why it wouldn't go into park.
After I got it all back together I adjusted it with the linkage up farther away from the trans. I just put it in park, loosened the "lock bolt" and got in the cab and moved the shift lever to park. Got under again and tightened stuff back up. Then started the truck and checked if it would go into gear and park at the right spots. Then adjusted until I was satisfied with it. Took awhile. Prob easier if you had help.
I hope this helps.

Well I have it running. The what i was talking about was the selector shaft protruding up from the trans. It has the two linkages attached to it. The top one is connected to the TV cable (throttle valve) which goes to the injection pump. The bottom one is connected to the actual shifter linkage. The shifter linkage was loose and wallowed out. So I removed both linkages and cleaned everything up. I discovered after removal that there was some adjustment left in tightener. So I took a punch and swelled the wallowed side of the flat a little bit. Then reinstalled it and tightened. Either the TV linkage arm was wallowed or the shifter selector was but there was no way to tell where it was supposed to go. So I reinstalled (kinda remembering how I held the socket) where I thought it was. I then went up top and removed the slack using the adjuster for the TV cable itself. The shifts are a little firmer with the slack gone and somewhat more load oriented. The 2nd gear shift from medium throttle is 18-22mph. third is around 32mph. light throttle gets a shift anywhere from 12mph(extremely light) to 15mph.
Does this sound like I have it correct.
Kickdown is greatly improved. She is much quicker to downshift. At full throttle

Well after driving yesterday and today I have noticed something that I would like to adjust out.
Light throttle the transmission is hesitant to shift out of first. It likes to be around 18mph before it will shift. Everything else is fine.
