Holy boost!!!

Just finished up my turbo upgrades this evening and took her for a test drive. What a test drive it was! First time i spooled it up good the gauge shot straight to 45 psi. I didnt keep in it long enough to get a real good egt ready, but it started to level out at 1100* at WOT. I expected the drop in egt's with the 60mm compressor, but i also expected a little less boost. That 12cm housing sure spools quick. Am i going to blow apart this H1C based turbo running 45+ psi? 45 psi was after a only 2-3 seconds of WOT on a flat road, i am scared to really get this thing under load and see what the boost tops out at.

I don't like to spin 'em much past 40 psi, it's rough on the turbo and on the head gasket.

Is that a wastegated housing? Just hook up the wastegate to a manual boost controller set for 40 psi and have at it.

its non-wastegated, so... ? Is there any way to set up a "pressure relief" in a boost tube? I guess thats what they make wastegates for

Nope, if you've still got the 18.5 laying around put it on, that should get you back below 40 psi.

dang it, that 12 is so much fun. I still have the 18.5, will it lag much more that stock with the 60mm wheel?

Nope, it'll run about the same. If you've tweaked on the fuel screw since you took it off, you'll be surprised at how well the 18.5 spools with enough fuel.

I havent touched the fuel since i put the turbo back on. I was putting out black up through 2500 rpm, isnt that enough to spool it?

So you have your boost controler set at 45psi? How much pressure will it make with the wastegate pinched off?

My truck is a auto and after I put the HX w/ the 60mm wheel and the stock 89 18.5cm housing I would hit 45lbs easy and it spooled up pretty quick. Since I put the Powerstroke innercooler in it it seems to max out at about 42lbs and the pyro gets around 1300* and seems to stay there.

1st of all, Feveree40 ur truck on youtube inspired me to buy my own CTD lol. but anyways i think if you get an intercooler and/ or put on the stock housing you'll be safe in boost range, or it may max out at 40-45 depending on fueling. But thats my guess.

You gotta be careful about that drop you see in boost with adding an intercooler. The turbo may still be pumping out 45 psi at the compressor but after the IC drop you may show several lbs. less and think your safe when your not. Boost drop can be bad the smaller the IC is.

So i've been thinking... what if i plumb a pressure relief valve from a water heater (30 psi) into my boost tube? like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-3-4-X-3-4-SA...d=p3286.c0.m14
