High RPM EGT's
When I am going down the interstate around 2400 rpm or so which is usually about how fast I run, and I hit a hill it doesn't take long for my EGT's to climb and pretty fast. When I am towing or anything I usually dirve slower, around 2200rpms and the EGT's don't climb nearly as fast even when I mat it to the floor like they do when I am going faster. So what I have noticed is that it is the high RPM's that is causing the EGT's to go up fast, because they climb like that even in 4th gear at higher RPMs. Is there anything that I can do about this, or is it just something that I have to deal with having 4.10 gears? I was just curious for when I do future mods if this problem will get worse or better or stay the same ect...
Thanks

Hi Chris,
Before anyone can really help, you would need to fill us in on what degree EGT's you're seeing and when. Once we know what your EGT's actually are, we can then tell you if they're normal or not.
Also, is this while empty or loaded/towing? It's pretty common for the EGT's to reach "unmanageable" when you start tweaking the pump with just the stock turbo. If you're EGT's are out of control, an upgraded compressor wheel and housing from HTT are probably the best bang for your buck.

While towing around 2200 rpms it barely gets up to 1250-1300 while empty at around 2400 rpms on the same hill it will shoot up to 1400 which is about the max I see. That's kinda why I was wondering if it was normal since at the higher speed I see higher EGT's than what I do loaded going 5-10 mph slower.

My truck is the same way. Before when I had it goverend to about 3100 it would defuel around 2700 and not get hot even w/ 38 psi. Now since it defuels around 3700 and goverend to 4100(?) it climbs very fast after about 2600-2700. I wonder why it does this too.
1400 max; I wish.

Do you have stock injectors? It may be worth it to have them cleaned and re-popped. In addition to that, and probably more importantly, I would suggest looking into a fuel pressure gauge, post filter. Even with 4.10's, you're asking a fair amount from the engine pushing those 315's down the highway. In theory, as RPM goes up, the VE advances injection timing accordingly. But, the dynamic timing in the VE is directly related to the pressure inside the pump case. A weak stock lift pump (or even a strong one if you're asking for fuel above the stock de-fuel point of about 2200) will limit the pumps ability to keep timing advanced at higher RPMs. Retarded timing up top will send still-burning fuel into the exhaust manifold and voila!...high egt's. I'd venture a guess that 7psi post-filter with stock injectors would keep the upper RPM timing in check...and I'd also guess that with a stock LP you're looking at close to 0psi under those conditions.
So a new lift pump, or better than stock lift pump may help, or for a start a fuel pressure guage to see if that is the problem would probably be where to start. A fuel pressure guage was going to be the next guage on my list. Yes they are stock injectors, and where do you get a lift pump that flows more than the stock one?
Thanks
