Most likely your fuel shut off solenoid is bad.

Can't you just unplug both the wires?

I'm not sure what that would do but I'm pretty sure In order for the pump to shut down when you turn your key off you have to have it. kind of the same concept of a starter solenoid or a glow plug solenoid on the 7.3 powerstroke. But if your on a budget and don't want pay for that high price bastard then you can run a choke cable from the manual shut on the pump into the cab!!! I done that to an old farm truck I used to have, work petty good but that's my .02. Maybe someone else with chime in.

If you unplug the wires with the plunger still in the FSS it will run like crap.

If the rubber tip is torn off it will run with it pluged in or not.

Its your fuel shutoff solenoid. My truck did this several times and I had to shut it off with the kill lever on the pump. Then one morning, thankfully in my driveway, it would only crank but not fire. I replaced the FSS with the $10.00 Ebay FSS. It still wouldnt start so I removed the new cheapie FSS and took the plunger and spring out of it and reinstalled the body of the FSS only and it fired right up.(thanks to BILTIT). I then ordered the correct Bosch FSS and installed it and have been trouble free since. Two morals of the story: 1)replace the FSS before it leaves you in a no -start situation where the towing costs more than the part and 2)Buy the correct Bosch part the first time. If you want to run a pull cable shutoff you can but you still need to remove the plunger and spring or ultimately it will fail in the fuel shut off position...and possibly leave you stranded. I removed and reinstalled the FSS buy gently tapping on it with a sharp cold chisel and hammer. Before you install the new one I would index or notch the hexed body with a Dremel tool so that the cold chisel can get a good bite on it to eliminate having to hit it too hard. Also if you have turned up your pump the fuel flow can destroy the rubber tip on the plunger. Not the case on my truck...it was just a worn out 22 year old part.

I paid about 60.00 for it on Ebay as "new old stock"...in other words never used but probably several years old. I believe a new one can be purchased at several online suppliers for around 100.00 or so. There are a number of people on this forum that have purchased the cheap Ebay one for about 10.00 or so and have had good luck with it but I didnt so maybe I just got a bad one. The Bosch part number is 0330001015 and it not to hard to change. Another thing you may want to check is the blue wire that goes to the FSS...is it on there and is the spade connection tight?
