Help The New Guy Please
Help The New Guy Please
Hello i just bought a 1992 W250. I'm 16 and this is my first truck. My dad has found some parts already, but what I really need is some good spring that I can plow with and now have to replace them every year. The current spings are as flat as a pancake. basically I have the parts I need to fix the body, i had to get a new cab, and may get some fenders. Also the there is a little white smoke during the first minute of running but goes as way, I think maby I need some new injectors, like there leaking causing some fuel to sit in the cylinder? 4wd works but I cant get it into 4wheel low. any help would be much apriciated. Thanks, Kyle.

welcome
... glad to see more young members (im 15)
flat leaf springs, yep normal.
I'm pretty sure they can be rearched at a shop, or buy some aftermarkets maybe. skyjacker??
Get some PB blaster and spray the crap out of your 4x4 linkage stuff, Our 93 did'nt go into lo either until i sprayed everything.. dont be afraid to whale on that 4x4 stick to get it to move... it might need some lube and a hammer.
They get bad over time.. they really need lubed every couple months.

PB blaster is an old Dodge trucks best friend. Get a buddy to work the 4x4 stick while you spray the linkages and rods down with the PB blaster. I don't know about the walein on it with a hammer but some good taps with a hammer shouldn't hurt. If it doesn't move soak it good and try again tomorrow. Banging it hard with a hammer you can break a linkage pin or bend a shift fork or shift rod. Good luck with it.

The hammer and PB blaster worked good for me
. PB blaster is amazing stuff, I was using WD40 all my life and then realized how much better PB is.. It does'nt evaporate and you can spray it on something and it'll soak in.

Fill out your signature so we can see what year your truck has, what it is, etc. Later years have a gated shifter that has to be pushed to the side one way to get into neutral and 4Low. Sometimes if your tires are turned or bound up its hard to shift too. There is no reason to hit a transfercase shifter w/ a hammer, unless you want to bend or break something. Look underneath at the linkage and see if there's a problem, you'll be able to see whether the shifter's gated or not also. Wear appropriate eye(and other) protection, most of the undersides of these trucks are full of crud ready to drop on you. I see you're from Chicago, not too many IL guys on here. Most firstgens native to our area have long rotted away....
thanks guys, i was in neautral when i tried to shift so i'll check the linkage, i think i got some pb blaster somewheres. its an auto. ill try to get my signiture up soon. thanks guys
