help my engine blew up
hey guys big problem my engine overheated and then a big boom sound
and the radiator fluid spewed from uder the hood. so i pulled off the side of the road and checked out he enginr, all i could see is that the radiator was boiling, no leaks or holes from anywhere, but before the big sound and spewing coolant the engine seemed to have lost compressin as i was cresting over the hill and then the boom and fluid, but before i had pulled off the side of the road the engine had already stopped running, there werent any rattling or bad sounds, it just stopped running. so i let it cool down checked all fluids and they were all fine, then i went to start it and it sound like the rods and every thing was just flopping around, so i go to crank it a second time and nothing, the engine just siezed up
so im really confused a t what happened, if anyone hasx had this happen or has any idea what happened i would really apprecicate it, also how much would it be to puta 1994-1998 12valve into one of our trucks??? thanks for any help

I had a guy driving for me with a 1990 non I/c truck and he did very much what you described. What was amazing is it knocked like no other and puked massive oil out the dipstick tube. He was on I-80 in Nevada pulling a load of trailers when it happened, he drove to Oregon then to Idaho where he picked up another load and drove to Texas and then pulled the head. !/2 a piston was welded to the cylinder head.
In your case something is jammed in the engine, could be a rod, Id try to turn the motor backwards with a wrench, but it pretty much sounds dead.

If you overheated the motor to the point where the block cracked the cylinder could've filled with anti freeze. After that happened the piston may have tried to come up on the fluid and snapped a wrist pin. Fluid is only compressible by a VERY small amount, so if the engine hydrolocked it would've caused damage. After the wrist pin broke, the conrod may have come around and cracked against the block, sending a mix of engine oil and anti freeze all over the place..... We did something similar in a 468 cubic inch Chevy big block SuperModified Race car..... 835HP and we wound up putting a conrod through the oil pan, but not before it came around and cracked a hole in the block, spilling that oily goo all over the racetrack.... That was a mess and a half.
hey thanks alot, i had a feeling something was toasted, but there aren't any holes or dents in the oil pan or block, but in a day or so im going to pull the head a see what my pistons look like, so does any one know how hard it would be to put a newer 12v into my truck, i have access to one for like 2 or 3 thousand dollars, or should i try to salvage my engine and rebuild it???

I say you burned a piston or two. Don't keep starting it
you will only risk cracking a cyclinder and have to have it bored
and sleeved, I know I been there, done that and it ain't cheap.

.............who has a spare block!

If you have access to one for under $3k you will be way ahead to swap it in. A later 12 valve will drop in like it grew there. You'll have some minor issues with the intercooler pipe, and the wiring for the shutown solenoid, but nothing too difficult.
hey thanks wanna, i was hoping some one would now about a newer 12v install, i thought i found one but went back t othe pick and pull and noticed it was a 24v, and they want too much for it, but there is some one on this site selling a 24v with a complete wiring harness and ecu with less than 67000 miles on it for 4500 obo, but i have a feeling that a 24v doesn't just bolt right in!!?? so i any one knows id be glad to know how easily it is and expensive, also will my tranny (727) bolt on to it?thanks
Sorry man!
I'd say either a piston skirt broke off and wedged between a crank counter weight and the block, or you list a rod cap and the rod is wedged between the rod journal and the block. Either way, it ain't good.
Hope I'm wrong.... keep us posted.

Either way, it's not good and should be investigated.
