You give up your over built factory 13" clutch in front of the getrag for a smaller 12.25" cheap clutch if your using the oem NV4500 clutch and such.

I was just looking at the clutch discs and they are wore pretty good, flywheel needs resurfacing so I can just upgrade to a 13" southbend clutch

Pretty common around here, lots of gravel roads and keeps your back window in place and doesn't beat the heck out of your trailer

Thank you, I'm loving it too

The nv4500 clutch looks pretty bad, assuming the getrag clutch is in good shape can't I just use that whole assembly? Seems like it's the same clutch looking through aftermarket options

I honestly am not sure about it. I do know the depth is different between the two, meaning the distance from the crankshaft flange to the machine surface of the flywheel is completly different. The starters are different between the 1st and 2nd gen trucks also.

It seems to me they are not interchangeable but I don't know the reason why. I have had them both side by side on the bench, but don't remember the conclusion I made between the two.

The full Southbend clutch kit will set you back north of $500.- but it's 13", it's backed up by a reputable company, you have a choice of friction material and updated hydraulics

ok thanks, that was my thoughts as well. Was just confused looking at them online and they called them nv4500/getrag clutch kits

Thanks, those are the ones I was looking at. I installed a southbend con fe clutch years ago in a 98 cummins and it was a good clutch

Difference is because 2nd Gen. engine adapter plate is roughly 1" deeper to accommodate the LU Converter that was introduced in 94.

They never should have put an Auto behind the Cummins..........
