HELP - I've got injectors out and questions

Today I'm swapping in my new 5x12's

The old injectors came right out, three didn't even need the puller.

I'm surprised to see the old injectors are 6 holes! I thought stock was 5x09? They are Bosch, and everything else on the truck has been totally stock so I'm really confused.

Second thing I need to know is the new injectors came with only a thin copper washer, and the old ones have a very thick copper washer. There's almost an 1/8th difference in how deep they will set and I don't really want to do this all over again tomorrow.

I'm not injector guru...but if it were me, and I couldn't get the proper thick washer right away....then I'd just clean the old copper washers and re-install on the new injectors.

I reused the old ones. Seems risky to put the injector in so much lower. Truck is up and running, it's got a bit more seat of the pants hp, not as much as I hoped for tho. My egts say I could have gone with 5x14's, I'm not sure the tranny would agree tho.

Wastegate needs adjusting too, I hit 43psi for about 1 second and let off.

Biggest difference seems to be my passing ability when I'm already going 70ish. 70-90 feels like it takes about 6 seconds

Wow! I have only driven 1 first gen, my 90. The only thing I have done is push the pump to the head, per instructions that came with rebuilt IP and mine will do 70 to 90 in about 2 seconds. It is a getrag. Is there really that much difference between the manual non-ic's and the rest? I am always surprised by the acceleration, it makes it hard to keep my foot out of it, not that I want to keep my foot out of it you understand...Mark

You want to use the thinner washer, it puts the tip of the injector closer to the bowl, and can reduce cold idle haze. There are several thicknesses of factory washers, and most folks go with the thin, 0.020 like what you had on your new injectors.

That's some interesting info. Like I said I'm no injector guru. Guess I learned something new today.

Yes sir I would swap the thin washers as well, helps with haze and power. Kinda like an old gas motor in high altitude running rich advance the time 5 degrees get some pep back.

It's not hazing at all, is it really worth swapping in the thing washers for power? I'm all for it if it actually will make a difference.

I would leave them as is. Usually its guys that run the wrong spray angle (155) in an ic engine that use thinner washers in an attempt to keep the spray in the smaller bowl.

Right now I'm running stock pump timing with the M&H timing spacer. As soon as I get my spring gate dialed down to about 35 psi on the turbo I will pull the timing forward an 1/8". Right now, having hit 44 psi the last thing my stock head bolts needs is more timing.

Then studs
Then S300 & 6x16's
Then 47 RH
........ The list never ends

With the M&H you should be good then, In regards to the planned 6x16's we have had better results with 5 hole nozzles. Last dyno pull gained 17 hp -36tq with 5x18 over 6x16 and going to 5x25 progress unknown do to torque conveter failure !
