Help! Door stricker wont unlatch

Ok, out of all the issues I have ever had this is a first. Today my wife shut the p-side door. Later she couldn't get in. When you opened either the outside or inside door release I noticed the lock (by the door glass) would slightly lock. Not all the way but about halfway. So I pulled the trim off the door thinking is was something simple like a rod had came off. Well nothing looked off or out of place. I tried to find an automatic release and nothing. I followed the rod from the inside door release and noticed the mechanism that moves upward. I thought maybe it wasn't going upward enough so I used my finger at the latch and still it caused the lock rod to slightly lock. My question has anyone else ever had a door latch mechanism fail and if so how did you get the door open to replace it? As always any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Robert

Might be the same problem I'm having with the work truck. I think it's a lube failure in the latch mechanism. If I try to open the locked door, then try to unlock it, it seems to unlock, but will not open...

I turn the key lock to locked, and remove the key. Then I shake it up by rapping on the handle with the edge of my hand, or with a small rubber hammer. The colder it is, the longer is needed. Then I snap the lock open, closed, open, etc several times till I discern the **** makes the last little bit of rise. Then the door will open.

Bouncing when attempting to shut it seems to be another manifestation of this problem.

I going to have to pull the latches, clean and lube them before winter.

When I got my donor 93 the pass side door would not open from either inside or outside. I had to pull the door panel with it locked in the shut position....PITA!!

What it turned out to be was the door handle button mechanism had rusted and seized in position just enough that the rest of the mechanism would not work. I had to disconnect all the rods going to the door latch mechanism, and then I was able to manually manipulate the proper linkage to get the door open.

Here's what it looked like when I got it out.....

Martin that sounds like my situation. I have tried to unlock with a key and open and nothing. I tried holding the finger **** (inside) and unlatch by pulling the rod at the latch and it still wont open. Its like something inside the latch just wont release.

Cows I know my outside door push button isn't rusty like that at all. In fact the only thing rusty in color is the inside mechanism. I tried disconnecting all of the rods and moving the mechanism by hand and it still will not release
I wasn't sure if there was a mechanical release inside (similar to the tailgate finger latch) the door on the mechanism.
