Heater core

Has anyone replaced a heater core on a 93 with A/C? I have horrible flashbacks of doing the one on my Wife's 280Z where the only words out of my mouth for 2 days can not be printed on this site! I'm hoping it won't be as bad as that. I also don't want to lose my A/C charge, still works fine after all this time. I've had the dash speedo part out several times. Will taking the whole pad out help access what I need? Thank you in advance. Jim

Haven't done it myself, but I took a look in the manual for ya. The dash pad won't help any. Looks like you have to remove the glovebox and ashtray, and then take the whole heater box out of the truck, then split the box apart to get the core. The manual says you have to disconnect the A/C lines. Sounds like a RPITA.

Thanks for the time to look that up! I do not like dash work, can never figure why they put so many extra parts in there. At least I know my truck will be lighter when I'm through Jim

I think I'll get that root canal and my back surgery done first. Oh, darn, I almost forgot about the hernia operation. When will I ever find the time to put in that heater core?? Jim

i think mine is out as well,. after parking from teh drive home i noticed a puddle on the inside rear of the passenger front tire. poped the hood and there was a drip drip coming from teh heater area on teh firewall.

do those only leak when in use? or all the time?
if i just by pass teh heater will my a/c still work?
how much do these things cost?

The person with the dripping on the engine side of the firewall. You werent running the defrost were ya, it runs the AC and generates condensation.

Yes unplug the ac compressor and try that. I leave mine unpluged uless it is to hot in the cab for my dog. If she is panting then I get out turn off the motor and plug it in and turn on the ac for her. My girlfried complaines because I wont do it for her when the weather is hot. I hate the clicking noise when the compressor comes on. Thats why I leave it unhooked. Plus when you have the ac on it takes to much power and I dont have any to spare. You dont need it hooked up in the winter anyways.

If its clear water its condensation, if its green its coolant. Also when the heater core goes it will really steam up your windshield when you turn the defrosters on.

it stopped raining here today, so ill drive her tomorrow and see what is what. no on the steamy windshield, and it looked to be clear when i looked at it, it was dark when i saw it.

hope thats what it is, so when you use the defroster it goes through teh ac and regular heat it doesnt?? wierd. jiMMy
