Head off, burned valves.

I noticed when I pulled off the rockers that some of the valves weren't rotating (divot on the top of the valve) and I knew that was going to mean some burned valve faces and seats, and that is what I found. Guess it's valve job time. Don't know if I can have the valve tips faced or it's replacement time.
This project just got a lot more expensive.

Also noticed the results of me using the thick injector copper seals with POD's. The spray pattern was above the bowl of the piston. Wasting some efficiency there. I didn't know any better at the time.

It's amazing how well these engine will still run with major mechanical issues....Thanks for the pics! I'd say that you'll need new valves...once the hardened surface has been worn through I'd think they would be toast.

New valves aren't outrageous, just worried about the seats. Will take the head in tomorrow to get it checked.

My stock injector'd truck with timing added has marks outside the bowl. As long as it isn't towards the outer reaches of the piston, you should be fine.

I totally forgot about pump timing's affect on the spray pattern.
Maybe I will machine the bores down .030" and run the .010" gaskets... I will keep investigating. Thanks.

Took the head to the shop, might get it back as early as Wednesday afternoon. Some of the valves are galled on the shafts and will have to be replaced. Now I just need to clean and disassemble the rocker shafts and get them milled. Machinist thought it was in decent shape for 392k of my treatment!
